Appalling Customer Service

May 29, 2019

I am so sad to be writing this review, as I have loved coming here in the past years and supporting a small business. Last night, I went to the theatre and when I walked into the building, I was finishing about a quarter of a bagel. Stuffing it in my face as I wanted to get more food. The girl working had came up to me and said her manager has asked me to finish the food outside. So I walked back to the door all while continuing to chew fast and shoving it in my face as I didn't want to miss the movie. As I got to the outside door, she came back again and said my manager has asked again you finish it outside. I said I just shoved it in my mouth so I am chewing fast! I then went back in line, no food in hand, and waited to pay for a ticket. She then came back to me and said my manager has asked that you leave the premise. I asked why, and she said because you were eating. I mentioned that I ate it as fast as I could and respected that I needed to finish it before entering. As I left, I called the manager as he wouldn't come down and speak to me. And he picked up and yelled at me and then hung up. I called back 2 more times to fully understand (I am in customer service, and this is appalling) to which he continued to not take my call and just hang up. How sad is this? When a local is trying to support this business and get turned away so rudely and abruptly. I then turned around and went to see a movie at Cineplex. I am devastated about this experience but after reading the other reviews, it seems pretty common :(

No No No at The Kingsway

March 06, 2018

On March 2 my husband and I visited The Kingsway cinema, anticipating an enjoyable evening. While my husband parked, I entered the lobby, noting the signs stating that no food or drink nor backpacks were permitted in the theatre. Before I could ask for the tickets, the girl said curtly “no food or drink can be brought into the cinema” to which I said “OK, fine.” She repeated herself and told me to read the signs. I was puzzled at the tone and implication of her manner. I opened my arms wide and said “You can see that I have no food or drink with me. I am trying to buy food and tickets.” She dialed the manager, telling him “the customer does not like what I told her,” then saying to me she was instructed not to sell me any tickets! She again trotted out the “no food or drinks” mantra. Exasperated, I asked to see the manager/owner. When he appeared, without looking directly at me, he blurted out “This is a licensed establishment, it’s not negotiable.” (What?) He ran off, leaving me confused, angry, and embarrassed. Never have I been subjected to such a humiliating and uncalled-for experience in all the years I have gone to a cinema. What kind of establishment treats patrons this way? I found the whole display of an uncaring attitude, shoddy rudeness, and arrogant disdain towards a customer to be quite unbelievable. I did not fall into any of the “NO” categories on the signs and, even if I did, is this your idea of customer relations, Kingsway? When my husband returned and went into the theatre to determine why I had been treated so badly, he got the same response from the owner as I had, plus a warning about calling the police (before again scurrying off). Hello, I think we have a problem here. We rented the movie and watched it at home later that evening, saving the $60 or so we would have gladly spent at The Kingsway had we been welcome there. There are always other cinemas to visit, but never again The Kingsway.

OLD MOVIE HOUSE with high entrance fee

July 17, 2016

I would never go to this cinema again. They charge $12-00 for seniors on the weekend, which is outrageous given that you can go to a modern cinema with stadium seating for under $10 As well, If you have anything that even resembles a backpack, you are obliged to take out what you need from it at are not allowed to take it into the cinema. This is outrageous as I have taken the same bag (it is not a rucksack or backpacK) I have taken it into every other cinema and never have I been told that I cannot take it into a cinema.

Worst Experience in a movie theatre

October 15, 2017

We went there. The film started late. Very poor projection and extremely overpriced tickets. We had driven from across town so we stayed. When the picture broke down and we complained to the management, we were screamed at.

Cold, dirty, pathetic and rude

March 04, 2019

Staff are unbelievably idiotic and rude. Both theatres are cold, dank, sticky and dirty. The upstairs theatre feels claustrophic. The waiting area is cramped, not to mention bizarre. My experience at the Kingsway was pathetic.
