Needs to be renovated

March 08, 2014

This theatre use to be beautiful. Like everything else the city of Hamilton is letting it fall a part. I understand you want it to be old looking, but that does not mean it needs to be dirty and falling down.

SEATS need looking at

January 19, 2014

great prices, old theatre stlye which is great....HOWEVER the seats are EXPTREMELY OLD AND UNCOMFORTABLE and I have noticed in the summer the smell of mold and mildew is very powerful---hopefully that has been remedied as the last time I was there (a month ago) the heat was on and no smell. REALLY need to take a look at the seats

The atmosphere is the key.

The theatre is small... very small. However, this is the key to its charm. Great popcorn, chesterfields along the back wall, and an over-all cozy feel complete the picture. Situated in a great neighbourhood and showing a current (if limited) selection of films, this is a perfect addition to a funky date night.

Two thumbs down.

Terrible service and a terrible experience. I have no idea how they stay in business. There's nothing 'art house' about this theatre-they play the same movies as the other theatres in the city, but have the nerve to overcharge, possibly because the pretentious snobs who patronize this place are too stupid to look up other showtimes. They are disorganized and often have the wrong showtimes (for instance, they had advertised a certain movie on their marquee, and on their webpage, but upon arriving for the movie I was rudely told it wasn't playing anymore).

Westdale Theatre plays current and well-done films (exclusive from the rest of Hamilton for the most part) while embracing a classic movie theatre experience. Certain familiar amenities of the larger Cineplex-designed theatres may be lacking, but I found overall the experience to be quite new and enjoyable and I'm looking forward to viewing their next feature film. On a somewhat separate note, there are also many great restaurants (for dinner and a movie) within walking distance of the theatre in the bright Westdale core.
