great movie

User review rating: 5 December 30, 2010

Wonderful moving film, historically accurate, depicting a king as being human with a human problem, stuttering. Very good insight into this problem. I also enjoyed the humorous aspect allowing the film not to be overly serious and dry.

quite interesting movie

User review rating: 5 December 30, 2010

Such integrity in story telling! One theatre in London On is playing this film to packed houses- the final applause at a film is not so very common. We loved every aspect of this movie.

User review rating: 4 December 30, 2010

Can't wait to see this movie. I do not know much about Queen Elizabeth's father.

User review rating: 5 December 30, 2010

I love British movies though I never thought I would have sympathy for royalty but Colin Firth does a splendid job of portraying King George VI. Geoffrey Rush plays a commoner with a noble spirit who helps George VI with his speech impediment that I was not aware of. Very informative and a feel good movie about overcoming personal challenges. Thank you.

User review rating: 5 December 30, 2010

Definitely an Oscar contender! Both Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush put in fabulous performances.

This is The movie of the year as far as the story and acting are concerned. I cried as the future king and his supportive wife went through the hell of therapy with their wonderful therapist.Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush are consumate actors and they both shine in this film. I wanted to applaud with the others when the king finally gave his pivotal speech. Fantastic film and I hope everyone goes to see it. Totally recommended.

Not bad.

User review rating: 5 December 29, 2010

Phenomenal! Great story, well done, and made me laugh more than many comedies these days. As a Canadian, remembering that he was our King too and this is our history too.

User review rating: 5 December 29, 2010

wonderful acting, fascinating historical drama

User review rating: 5 December 28, 2010

this sensational movie makes you feel real sympathy for the royals who generally do not evoke sympathy. Colin Firth is nothing short of perfect in his depiction of the troubled and shy stammerer who becomes King against all odds and his deepest fears. His triumph is aidied by a speech therapist, played by Geoffrey Rush who is at his finest. Both richly deserve the "crown" at the Oscars!

User review rating: 5 December 28, 2010

As expected,Colin Firth delvers a towering performance as the stammering King George VI who initially couldn't speak to save his crown. He is well-matched by the electric and charasmatic Geoffrey Rush as the self-taught speech therapist.Helena Bonham Carter is sweet and supportive as the future beloved Queen Mum.There is a tasty cameo by the great Derek Jacobi as the snobbish Archbishop.Besides drawing attention to stammering sufferers and their dreadful plight;this is a sparkling and compelling film not to be missed. One of the year's very best films!

User review rating: 5 December 28, 2010

This movie is bloody marvelous! The acting is top notch all round. The main characters are played to perfection and they all deserve an Oscar nod.I would imagine even The Queen would approve of this movie.

Can't say enough good things about this movie. Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter were all fantastic, the film was historically accurate and great for people of different generations. I hope they all win awards for their performances, and I highly recommend this film!

Truly a masterpiece - subtle, multilayered, moving, and with stunning performances by Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, and especially Geoffrey Rush. Who would have thought a movie about a king overcoming a speech impediment could be quite so engaging?

User review rating: 5 December 28, 2010

A very touching character study. The acting by the three principals (Firth, Rush and Bonham-Carter) is Oscar-worthy. This is an engrossing film. Firth proves himself yet again to be one of the finest actors today.
