Maria et José Ribeiro, a working class Portuguese couple who have lived in France for the past 30 years, have worked tirelessly to ensure a comfortable life for their two children, Paula, now an adult, and their teenage son Pedro. Maria is a concierge at the chic Parisian building where the Ribeiros live and her husband is a respected construction foreman.
When they find out they’ve inherited a vineyard and a beautiful family home in their native country, both are reluctant to tell their employers, to whom they’ve become indispensable. The situation is further complicated when their daughter Paula reveals that she’s dating Charles Caillaux, the preppy son of José’s upper middle-class boss.
