Ishmael is preparing his doctoral thesis in sociology. The theme: the Paris train station Gare du Nord as a representation of the global village. While expanding his research by going out to meet the customers and employees of the great train station, the young man of African descent meets Mathilde, a history professor with cancer. They develop a friendship through Ishmael’s academic project, which then turns to feelings of love. However, due to the difference in their ages, the young man begins to distance himself from her, to Mathilde’s dismay. Meanwhile, Sacha, the star of a hidden camera show, tirelessly combs the train station and surrounding area, hoping to find his runaway teenage daughter.
