This program highlights an exciting new generation of filmmakers currently attending film programs in eastern Canada and the US. Restricted by budget, time and academia, these students manage break from convention to deliver unique and innovative works. Expanding the boundaries of narrative filmmaking, these new films experiment with form, content, genre and even reality. Han Lee's WALKING WHILE SLEEPING documents the inner lives of cats and humans, blurring the lines of reasonable behavior. Geoffrey Pugen creates an artificial space for interaction in FICTIONAL DANCE PARTY. Working within a narrative framework, these artists struggle to find new materials to express their ideas. Emily Carmichael uses the retro world of video games to explore our existence, while David Frankovich's film explodes through the fourth wall with surreal imagery and dancing robots.
