In the latest round of Oscars news the Academy announced they would bring in 11 unique talents to introduce the eight Best Picture nominees.
The talents are said to come "from various walks of life" and were announced by show producer Donna Gigliotti and co-producer Glenn Weiss.
These talents include Chef José Andrés, Dana Carvey, Queen Latifah, Congressman John Lewis, Diego Luna, Tom Morello, Mike Myers, Trevor Noah, Amandla Stenberg, Barbra Streisand, and Serena Williams.
“Movies connect us all,” said Gigliotti and Weiss. “They move us, and they create moments and memories that unite us. We are thrilled to assemble this well-known array of film lovers to introduce and share their reflections on the Best Picture-nominated movies.”
While Gigliotti and Weiss haven't revealed which of the talents will be paired up with each Best Picture nominee, there are enough clues to play a matching game based on the selection.
Chef José Andrés and Diego Luna - Roma: The Spanish and Mexican connection here is pretty obvious here with Alfonso Cuaron's personal film.
Mike Myers and Dana Carvey - Bohemian Rhapsody: With all these talents could it be anyone else other than these two? The Wayne's World duo's most iconic scene is built around the titular song and film. Here's hoping they show up as Wayne and Garth.
Trevor Noah - BlackkKlansman: The political commentator and Daily Show host would easily be the most appropriate fit for Spike Lee's latest film, and it helps that Noah recently interviewed him on his show. Other options include Congressman John Lewis, Amandla Stenberg, Queen Latifah, or Serena Williams.
Serena Williams and Amandla Stenberg - Black Panther: With Noah taking on BlackkKlansman I'd be willing to bet Serena Williams and Amandla Stenberg will be the talents to present groundbreaking Best Picture nominee Black Panther.
Congressman John Lewis - Vice: With the film being about former Vice President Dick Cheney the only obvious fit with the talents selected is the only politician of the group -- Congressman John Lewis. Another option here would be Tom Morello, who is a political activist as well as being a musician.
Tom Morello - A Star is Born: It takes one musician to understand another and the journey to stardom makes Tom Morello a fitting choice, though this could also be presented by Barbra Streisand.
Queen Latifah - Green Book: From one musician to another, Green Book was a tough one to nail down and so after whittling away other selections I was left with Queen Latifah. A secondary option would be Congressman John Lewis, who lived through much of what Don Shirley experienced.
Barbra Streisand - The Favourite: By process of elimination, I was left with Streisand as the last one standing for The Favourite. There's no real obvious fit here, with The Favourite being an 18th century period piece, and as such, I can't really think of anyone else in this group that's more fitting. ~Paolo Maquiraya
