Paul Newman was an Oscar-winning actor, as well as a director, producer, race car driver, and entrepreneur, but he was most notable in Hollywood for his captivating blue eyes.
Ironically, the man with the most beautiful eyes in Hollywood was color blind! He discovered this before he became an actor, when he enrolled in the Navy V-12 pilot training program hoping to become a pilot. However, his inability to distinguish colors dashed his hopes. Yet, it was those same colorful eyes that propelled his acting career, helping establish him as the legendary "King of Cool."
His dazzling good looks and charming personality landed him roles in many blockbusters. His breakthrough film -- which earned Newman his first Academy Award nomination -- was alongside Elizabeth Taylor in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
The movie was originally to be shot in black and white, as was the norm in the 1950s. However, when Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor were cast, director Richard Brooks insisted on filming the movie in color to show Taylor's rare violet eyes -- and Newman's piercing blue eyes.
This film catapulted Newman into a position as one of Hollywood's top stars. He went on to play roles in classics that are still praised today. A selection of his films are included in the new DVD set from Paramount Home Video that released this week: Paul Newman 6-Movie Collection, which includes Hud, A New Kind of Love, Fat Man and Little Boy, Nobody's Fool, Twilight and Road to Perdition.
We have one copy to give away to one of our readers. For a chance to win, tell us below which of his films is your favorite, or which of his films you’d most like to see. A winner will be chosen on Friday morning (Feb. 8) at 10:00 a.m. ~Emily Chavez

Have to be Hitchcock's 'Torn Curtain' w/ Julie Andrews. Its just one of those films U can see time & time again. He was arguably at his best as an actor, and what better director and co-star? (Loved The Sting, The Verdict, Hud, The Colour of Money). Im also lucky to have met him while working in Montreal; he was on the outskirts, racing a car & I was apart of a media team that were invited to come hang out. Pretty cool.

I saw Cool Hand Luke when I was a teen and it had a great impact on me so that's #1.But like others have said - you can't just pick one. So #2 has to be the shear drama of "The Hustler".

The Verdict. I always thought Paul Newman got ripped off for not getting the Oscar for his role in that movie. Taking nothing away from Ben Kingsley in Gandhi. In fact, it's disgraceful that the only Academy Award he won was for The Color of Money, a movie in which he was good, but not like he was in the Verdict, and several other films. The range of emotions he displays throughout the film is amazing and should be required viewing for all acting students. It is a bold role that shows a character that is vulnerable, flawed, yet principled and stoic. Through it all he does the right thing and in a role that not many actors could have pulled off - Newman was the reason we watch movies. A consummate movie star. He made acting look easy. His like will not be seen again.
My favourite was The Sting and also Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I would love to see Road to Perdition
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid, Hud is the movie I would most like to see again

It's SOOOO HARD to choose just one movie! But I LOVED Paul Newman in HUD especially because his own character was the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of Hud's - proving that, apart from his BLINDING GOOD LOOKS, he was a VERY FINE actor!!
To Penguin: I don't suppose you know that Paul Newman passed away? I love him Paul Newman and Robert Redford? Just off the top, I would choose Butch Cassidy and The Sting. A great loss. So sad! I still see Robert Redford's new work. And of course, any of the past works of both. Just about to cry as I write this...just came out.
