Published By Marriska Fernandes on Jan 07, 2019

Bohemian Rhapsody It was a night of surprises at the 76th annual Golden Globe Awards as Bohemian Rhapsody and star Rami Malek took home awards for best drama and best actor in a drama respectively, beating out A Star is Born, which was expected to nab the top honors.

Another surprise win was best actress (drama), which went to Glenn Close for The Wife. She beat a star-studded group of nominees, including Lady Gaga, Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy and Rosamund Pike.

Green Book took home the award for best picture musical/comedy and best screenplay, while the film's star Mahershala Ali won for best supporting actor.

The Netflix original film Roma won in the best foreign language film category, just as expected. Director Alfonso Cuarón won the coveted best director award. A Star is Born only scored one award for the night, winning best song for "Shallow."

On the TV side, The Kominsky Method won the best comedy series (musical or comedy) and best actor in a TV comedy went to Michael Douglas. For the second year in a row, Rachel Brosnahan scored the best actress in a comedy for the Amazon Prime series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The Assassination of Gianni Versace took home two awards, one for best television limited series and one for best actor, nabbed by Darren Criss.

Sandra Oh, who co-hosted the show alongside Andy Samberg, was awarded best TV actress in the drama category for her role in Killing Eve. The actress made history as the first Asian actress to win a Golden Globe for lead actress in a drama series. ~Marriska Fernandes
