Havana, Cuba 1990. Olga Salanueva (Penélope Cruz) is told her husband Rene Gonzalez (Edgar Ramirez) is a traitor, after he stole a plane and escaped to Miami. While there, Rene says he has defected, but he has really been recruited by the Wasp Network to infiltrate anti-Castro groups. While Rene is seen as a hero in the eyes of the Cuban government, his wife and daughter must live with the consequences of being a "traitor's" family.
