Romeo/65050/">Romeo (Douglas Booth) attends a ball at the Capulet house, where he meets and falls in love with Juliet Capulet (Hailee Steinfeld). However, Romeo/65050/">Romeo is a Montague, and the Capulets and Montagues are sworn enemies.

Nonetheless, the two young lovers can't stay apart and Juliet agrees to marry Romeo/65050/">Romeo. They're married by Friar Laurence, who hopes the union will help brings the feuding families together.

When Juliet's cousin Tybalt challenges Romeo/65050/">Romeo to a duel, he refuses, because he feels they are now kin. Romeo/65050/">Romeo's friend Mercutio accepts the duel on his behalf and is killed when Romeo/65050/">Romeo tries to break up the fight. Romeo/65050/">Romeo then kills Tybalt and is exiled.

Meanwhile, Juliet, who has kept her marriage to Romeo/65050/">Romeo secret, is rejected by her parents when she refuses to marry Paris/36049/">Paris, whom they have chosen for her. She goes to Friar Laurence, who gives her a drug that will put her into a deathlike state for several hours, so she can't be married.

Romeo/65050/">Romeo isn't made aware of Juliet's plan and when he hears of her death, he returns to Verona, which leads to tragic consequences.
