The official trailer for Patriots Day begins as Sgt. Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) gets handed a cup of coffee from his wife Carol (Michelle Monaghan). They exchange a few words and he suits up in his Boston Police gear to start his day. The date April 15, 2013 appears on screen.

As the trailer continues, it's revealed that masses of people are gathering on the streets in preparation for the Boston marathon. We watch Tommy interact with Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman) and see the competitors take off. But the harmonious tone is broken by a sudden blast, and as debris clouds the frame, Tommy shouts into his walkie talkie: "We got multiple explosions, we need help down here!" What is now referred to as the Boston Marathon bombings unfolds, and the remainder of the trailer showcases the investigation that's launched in its wake and how authorities tracked down the terrorists responsible for the attacks.
