I have never watched a shakespeare`s play before but found myself gripped to the story as it unfolded.

I feel that The Merchant of Venice is overdue long overdue for a movie re-make. This was a very good adaptation, and well worth the cost of a ticket.

i saw the movie for class and was happy to have seen that it was a better movie then I thought. The problem with the movie was that it seemed to drag on and on in some parts. Yes it is Shakspere but the avarge viewer has a limited attention span. The movie would have been just as good if not better had it cut out some scens. The movie did a great job of showing the beauty of Venica

Casting & photography are excellent. Some changes to the text and the order of scenes were made, but nothing that was disturbing. Pacino and the director/writer make Shylock much more sympathetic than usual, and Antonio is treated far too sympathetically, bit on the whole, it`s an intelligent adaptation.
