The trailer for Annihilation begins with a biologist (Natalie Portman) being questioned under quarantine after an encounter with an alien form she can’t describe. We see intense flashbacks and settle on a scene where she was in bed with her husband, who left to enter a strange place called the Shimmer. Afterwards, he is found barely alive and she begs to know what happened to him. To save him and stop the spreading Shimmer, she leads an expedition inside it, but finds things are not as they seem.  She and her team are now in a dangerous fight for their lives as they try to understand what’s going on around them.
