In the trailer for Late Night, when late night talk show host Katherine Newbury (Emma Thompson) is informed by the network head (Amy Ryan) that this upcoming season will be her last, she looks to change things up on her show to keep her relevant enough to avoid cancellation. She sees this opportunity in the form of Molly Patel (Mindy Kaling), whom she hires to be part of her writing staff and to add a splash of color and a modern voice to her show.
