In the trailer for Eighth Grade, Kayla is talking to the camera, doing another episode of her online blog, in which she counsels other kids like herself. When not on camera, it's obvious Kayla is a little socially awkward, and not very popular in school. A bit quiet and shy, she still pushes herself to make connections with her peers as she looks forward to high school.
