Even though Yang Yang has a French father, she does not speak a single word of French as she has never even met her father. When she turns 20, her mother remarries. Yang Yang's new father is her athletics coach and her best friend Xiao-Ru becomes her older sister. At first, everything with this newly formed family seems to be going well.

But then, tensions begin to rise between the two young girls and Yang Yang decides to leave home. She starts to work as a model and her agent turns her Eurasian heritage into her selling point.

When she receives an offer to play the leading role in a film about a young Eurasian woman in search of her French father, Yang Yang is forced to address her Eurasian identity.
