Two women, 40 cans of Canadian maple syrup, and an old blue Volvo hit the road through the dark, lush, Southern USA. Using her family tree as a road map, Laura, an expatriate American, leads her friend, Patricia, a Canadian, to a home that no longer exists.

Following the death of her mother, a rare progressive Democrat in a deeply religious and mostly right-wing family, Laura returns home to reconnect with her sprawling Southern clan through seven bible-belt states. She needs to see what remains of her mother’s ideals of justice and compassion in the land of hard-core Bush supporters.

The film maps out a journey that allows us to see the Bible Belt as a cinematic complex of characters, cowboys, preachers, fundamentalists and kin-folk who populate a unique world.
