Jacques, a sound engineer in his fifties, hasn’t gone out with a woman since his wife left him several months ago. One day, while at a café in his Paris neighborhood, he runs into his old girlfriend Claire, whose husband recently walked out on her. Later, Jacques hires Laura, a young girl who lives nearby, to clean his apartment.

Not long after, Laura asks if she can move in for a while, because her boyfriend broke up with her and kicked her out. Initially reluctant, Jacques finally agrees to let her move in. One night, she joins him in his bed. Shortly after, when his wife returns, Jacques and Laura leave for Bretagne, where his friend Ralph puts them up.
