Massoumeh and Zahra Naderi (who play themselves) are twin Iranian girls who, at age 12, had almost never been outside their house in Tehran. They were locked up by their blind, fearful mother and disturbed 65-year-old father. Tired of the stink of the house, their neighbours finally alerted the local welfare department, who discovered that the twins had not been washed since they were babies and couldn't speak properly.

The parents are allowed to return home with the girls after the father promises not to lock them up anymore. But when a social worker (Mohamadi) visits the house, the girls are still behind bars. She lets the children out to explore the neighbourhood and locks the father inside the house, handing him a hacksaw and telling him he has to remove the bars before she will release him.
