Fifteen years after the fictional Cap Tourmente, Michel Langlois returns to make this documentary about the family who inspired his earlier film. Yvonnette, 90, and her children (played in the fiction film by Andrée Lachapelle, Roy Dupuis, Elise Guilbault and Gilbert Sicotte) murmur confessions and unspoken violence, shared remembrances and veiled bitterness. A masterful narrative voice holds everything together in this discreetly indiscreet exercise, closer to a diary than an essay, touching on the nature of memory and the hazy line between dream and waking.
