Documentary filmmaker Martin Frigon studies the over-development in the historic towns in Quebec's Laurentian mountains. Reinforced by testimony from local citizens, elected officials and experts, Frigon shows the negative impact as local residents' property taxes skyrocket, forcing them to sell their homes and move out of the district, while big box stores and large retailers drive local merchants out of business. He shows us a society that robs individuals while arguing that they're creating jobs and wealth. Meanwhile, René Derouin, a local artist of international renown, creates a mural to beautify a grocery store at the center of the village of Val David, in an effort to encourage locals to continue to shop there.
