In 1987, when Margaret Thatcher was the prime minister of Britain, Javed (Viveik Kalra), a Muslim teenager of Pakistani descent is growing up in the town of Luton, England. He experiences much intolerence in his hometown, while being brought up by an inflexible, traditional father.
When he's introduced to the music of Bruce Springsteen, he sees parallels between what the Boss is singing and his own life in a working-class town. A poetry writer himself, he begins to find the courage to express himself.
