A good-hearted but mischievous Iranian teenager named Lateef (Abedini), working as a caretaker on a construction site, provides tea and food to the Afghan refugees working illegally for scant wages. After an Afghan worker suffers an accident, his son Rahmat (Bahrami) is brought in to replace him but he is not meant for such physical labour, so Lateef is reassigned to the hard construction work while Rahmat is given Lateef's caretaking duties.
Initially resentful over his reassignment, Lateef's attitude changes when he spots a beautiful Afghan girl brushing her hair in the caretaker's room. He's taken with her instantly and sets out to impress her, and she returns his affections. But after government inspectors show up on the site, all the Afghan workers, including the girl, are discovered and fired immediately.
Lonely and heartbroken, Lateef sets out to find his beloved, which leads him to a choice that will change his life forever.
