What Do You Expect?

March 17, 2014

The Oshawa Grandview Cineplex is nothing grand or excellent; however, it is not the worst theatre to visit and watch film entertainment. This theatre's cleanliness rating is unsteady. I have come in some mornings, days, and evenings, and the theatre can be a mess (trash on the floor, all the concession food still in the movie room, neglected accidents and spills). Speaking of concession food, what do you want me to say? The cheaply made food is expensive at all theatres. The Cineplex's in-THEATRE presentation has very repeatable content. I have never been impressed with the customer service, but once again, what do you expect? I personally cannot recall one time I have ever felt welcomed by employees who simply want to go by unnoticed. Unfortunately I can name several times a Cineplex Grandview employee has acted out rudely to a customer for no honest reason. Overall my general experience and feedback to you is this is a simple and easy to reach destination to watch a film that has yet to come out on DVD. It is a public theatre of menial standards and you should not expect it to be exactly to your liking-tastes. You want "better service"? I've been to great theatres in Toronto!

Where are the movies for people over 30?

January 05, 2015

I know it's the Holiday Season but adults still like to go to the movies. Where is The Theory of Everything and a lot of other movies out now. I could go to the old AMC in Whitby but I do live in Oshawa. As for the sticky floors, I wrote Cineplex the first month they opened about that very thing. They improved for awhile but looks like that have gone back to not caring. Staff need to be trained on smiling and being pleasant and picking your seat when you purchase the ticket is insane. Took a friend that was a stroke person and got in the theatre we had to walk way across the front of it for her to get to our seats. There was no problem with finding a seat when you get inside. Selecting your seat in advance might be okay at a special screening but even then if you want the best seats go early. Simple.

It's OK. Not the best or the worst.

February 13, 2020

I have been watching movies here since it opened, it is close to where I am so I visit this theater often, and I never had a bad experience watching movies. The commercials are a bit too much though, many times I forget what I'm watching before the movie starts, and the ticket prices are a little high but that is going on everywhere. The reclining chairs are good, but it's not really made for slightly smaller than average size person. I end up leaving the theater very uncomfortable. It's mostly the shape of the seat I have the issue with, no support in the lower back area. With the movies getting longer I feel sorry for anyone with back issues. I had never experienced this before the seat change or in any other theaters I have visited ever. The food prices are pretty expensive, I enjoy some of the warmer foods, but there is a very good chance of getting stale popcorn. If it's sitting in a bag when you get there ask for a fresh one or get something else. The last time I had popcorn was very disappointing, it was like they put some fresh popcorn on top of the old stale ones. I spent a lot for just a bag of popcorn that I can't eat, and it ends up straight to the garbage. It happens more than once too, my friends, and family had the same experience, the most recent was last week. It reminded me why I rarely eat at theaters. I have no problems with the customer service there, they are very nice and willing to help. It sometimes looks as if they are may be a little short-staffed but I maybe comparing from when they first opened. Overall, I do enjoy movies and will visit again but won't be eating popcorn for a long while.

Poor

January 05, 2014

I have ordered popcorn 3 times in a row and it's way too salty. So next time, I requested no salt. The clerk gave a pause and said we "could" do it but they would have to make a whole new batch... Then said it would take a while, waited for me to say that's ok, and I left the counter. Today, I asked for popcorn with no salt. The girl said they would have to make some. She asked a co worker beside her while rolling her eyes, the co worker said it would be a while because all the machines were in use- she paused telling waiting for me to say forget about it which I did. Empire is looking better and better

Fishy Odor in Women's Washroom

July 15, 2015

We saw a film on Tuesday July 14, in the evening. The women's washroom cubicle stunk, a fishy smell. The door handles were all sticky too. The manager needs to do much better checking of cleanliness, that fish smell did not occur in one day. The toilets and floors need a good disinfecting.

What a Sticky Mess

November 10, 2019

I can't believe how much it costs to go out to a movie these days. Luckily the seating is super comfortable. I arrived at the concession stand to friendly staff members but the young lady taking my order wasn't 'hearing' me. She asked the same question 3 times and when I mentioned that the counter was sticky she completely disregarded my comment. My very expensive food was placed on the sticky counter (gross) and off I went. As I walked passed all the other tills, the entire counter was a sticky and dirty mess. Then I saw 3 - 4 other staff members hanging out, talking and definitely not working. The place must have went through a rush, it was dead at this time, and the employees were in no rush to get the place back in order. The cup holder in the theatre was also dirty.

Worst frozen yogurt

July 20, 2015

The new company that now is in place for frozen yogurt is awful. The aftertaste is something to make you vomit. What were they thinking, the other was much better and had no aftertaste. Just try it, you will see the aftertaste yuck. Smaller drinks sizes now and a frozen yogurt that tastes artificial

One of the worst

January 11, 2017

This is combination of their small theater size, rarely clean environment, bad customer service, terrible times for movies and the fact that they never answer their phone. My friend lost his wallet there and not only were we barely helped, one of the employees claimed he would get a call back the next day which never happened. This theater is miles away from the university it serves and we can't take the bus because his bus pass was in the wallet. If you can afford to go to any other theater, I would highly recommend doing so.

Seating

January 06, 2018

Your new reclining seating is by far the most uncomfortable seats that have ever been installed. I will not be returning to these theatre's again.
