In the second official trailer for the sequel Independence Day: Resurgence, fighter pilot Jake Morrison (Liam Hemsworth) says he can't believe it's been 20 years since the alien attacks. He asks Patricia Whitmore (Maika Monroe) if she's going to take her father, President Whitmore (Bill Pullman) to the 20th anniversary. She replies that they wouldn't be there if it wasn't for him.

At a stadium, thousands of people gather to commemorate the people who lost their lives in the alien invasion, but saved the human race from the clutches of extinction. In the past 20 years, the technology has been discovered to provide a stronger, safer Earth. However, that doesn't seem to matter to the aliens, who are launching a new attack.
