The DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year trailer opens with a girl at Super Hero High announcing the preparations for the annual "Hero of the Year" ceremony. She introduces the DC Super Hero girls, consisting of Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Katana, Poison Ivy and Bumblebee — in their very first movie. We see an evil-looking woman called Dark Opal who claims that "darkness will overcome the light." The DC girls fight Dark Opal with each of their unique superpowers, and Supergirl is shown managing to blast Dark Opal into a wall with her eye lasers. At the end, a professor tells the girls that they are all heroes of the year in his book.
