Winnipeg Saga
In celebration of its 30th anniversary in 2004, the Winnipeg Film Group commissioned five of the most accomplished filmmakers who have come through its ranks to create a short film. Initially envisioned around the theme of the filmmaking process, each of the participating filmmakers interpreted this mandate broadly and the resulting movies span the spectrum of cinema-from animation to comedy, and dramatic to experimental. Premiering to a packed house last Fall at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, these five new works have collectively travelled to over 35 national and international film festivals. Films include Neil and Cathy McInnes' AUTOMOTO, Aubriand's TIME AWAY, Guy Maddin's ODIN'S SHIELD MAIDEN, Matt Holm's MAN OF THE NORTHWEST and Deco Dawson's THE LAST MOMENT. A screening tour of these five films will be travelling to various communities in Manitoba in the Fall and Winter of 2008/2009.
