The late Bill Mason's 'Canoe Odyssey' was one of a few 'Special' Princess Cinema events back in the late 1980s in our first couple of years as a cinema. Bill appeared at the opening screening and entertained packed audiences with his infectious stories of canoeing and adventure. WATERWALKER is a feature length collection of Bill's best canoeing shots from a life spent filming and photographing the wilds of Algonquin, near North shield country and north of Superior rivers and lakes and shorelines. It has become a classic of canoe filmmaking. As a filmmaker, depicting himself in the wild, he was and still is the best. As self styled "wild guy filmmakers" Les Stroud and Kevin Callan have come after Mason, but pale in comparison to Mason's craft and use of light to illumination gorgeous wild places. The opening shot, filmed in low dawn light of morning with the majestic Natch cliffs on the Petawawa River in the background is pure painting & artistry with a camera. We are fortunate to have his daughter Becky Mason, a renowned canoeist and touring speaker/teacher/environmentalist at the cinema to introduce the film. All seats are $10.
