The boyish Mel has big plans to travel the world with her brother - until his plans suddenly change. Presented with an opportunity to escape her dreary life when she is mistaken for a Portuguese male by a young hitchhiker, she grabs the chance and reinvents herself. As "Miguel," she falls for Jenny--who turns out to be much younger than she claims.

At the same time Mel is caught up in another lie, pretending to have a boyfriend herself to keep her family happy.
