Half a century ago, the people of Hungary mounted an armed rebellion against the Soviet occupation. It was a revolution crushed by the ruthless power of the Red Army. Thirty seven thousand of these defeated dreamers would become the first refugees to be welcomed en masse by the Canadian people. These rebels have now settled in the country and found success in the arts, journalism and business. Filmed on location in Budapest and Toronto, The Young Rebels is filled with passionate interviews and stories and is a deeply personal memoir of defiance, betrayal and renewal.

*THE YOUNG REBELS is presented in conjunction with a travelling Oral History Exhibit of personal stories and archival materials from the Anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution to be presented at the University of Manitoba March 10-19, 2008.
