Loosely based on the John Irving novel, A Prayer for Owen Meany.Irving himself had a go at the script but finally gave up on translating his book for the screen and asked that the main character's name be change and he be given an "inspired by" credit. It's the story of an odd little boy who accidentally kills his best friend's mother.

The boy is played by 11-year-old Ian Michael Smith who has the rare genetic disorder called Morquio's Syndrome. Carrey fills in the role of the narrator.
