Ruth (Sonja Bennett), 35, lives with her father (James Caan), works as a cashier, parties and sleeps in regularly. She realizes she doesn't have much in common with her closest friends, all of whom are married and either pregnant or have children. When she misbehaves at a baby shower, her friends decide to leave her out of future get togethers.

Ruth decides on a whim to pretend she's pregnant, which gets her back in with her friends and even gets her a boyfriend, but it leaves her with a bigger problem — at some point she's going to have to come clean when it becomes clear that she hasn't had a baby.
