Marie’s heartache from losing her son stops her from being able to live a normal life. She decides to place an ad in the paper that reads, "A mother who has lost her son is looking for a son who has lost his mother." Four men respond to the ad. Martin is withdrawn teenager who lives with his violent father.

Paul is a middle-aged father who behaves in an odious manner towards his own wife and his children. Victor is an obese young man whose parents rarely ever make an effort to see him. As for Alex, he is a young artist who uses drugs and indulges in sado-masochism. Marie gives her heart and soul to these four individuals.
