Returning home from her final chemo treatment, Ida (Trine Dyrholm), a Danish hairdresser, walks in to find her husband with another woman. With their daughter Astrid's (Molly Blixt Egelind) wedding in Italy to her fiancé Patrick (Sebastian Jessen) coming up, Ida struggles to keep it together. On her way to the airport, she runs into Patrick’s dad, Philip (Pierce Brosnan), a lonely widower who spends most of his time working. He takes his anger out on everyone because of how his wife died.

Philip and Ida travel together to his villa in Italy, where they help the couple prepare for their wedding. When Ida’s husband arrives with his girlfriend, Ida focuses all her energy into being there for Astrid. But Astrid has troubles of her own. She finds Patrick is becoming distant and begins to wonder if he truly loves her.
