Despite being brother and sister, Benoît et Maryse are almost strangers. Benoît lives the life of a teenager, at home with his widowed father. He's dating a single mother whose young son hates him. Maryse, who is married, works in a factory. She lives a quiet life, in which her most pressing problem is getting rid of the backhoe that sits on her front lawn. When she witnesses a gruesome accident at the factory, her eyes are opened to the emptiness of her existence. Meanwhile, a time traveler from the not-too-distant future visits Benoît to tell him Maryse will soon die in a car accident unless Benoît stops the events that will put that in motion. The siblings go on a trip north to their father's cottage together in an effort to get rid of the backhoe. Along the way, they get to know each other.
