Olwen Williams leaves her Welsh village and sweetheart Tom to take up a singing scholarship. Tom's ambitions remain closer to home. Jill Craigie's first feature film has a keen eye for Tom's mining village life in South Wales. Olwen's city life in London, in contrast, appears brittle and artificial.
