Blood Diamond, Coming Soon

Blood Diamond is to be released December 15th. A "blood diamond" is another name for "conflict diamonds". These are diamonds mined in certain African countries and are used to finance wars in these countries. Trade in blood diamonds is frowned upon. The Globe and Mail reports today that the diamond industry will try and counter the effects of this movie with a $15 million dollar marketing campaign. In my opinion such a campaign is counter productive. The launch of anything "anti" just gives fuel to the thing they are fighting.

Bond and Poker

It appears everyone is getting in on the poker craze, even 007! A key plot line for the new James Bond movie - Casino Royale - involves Bond playing a banker/terrorist in a high stakes game of poker. Casino Royale is due in theatres November 17th.

CASINO ROYALE introduces JAMES BOND before he holds his license to kill. But Bond is no less dangerous, and with two professional assassinations in quick succession, he is elevated to "00" status. Bond’s first 007 mission takes him to Madagascar, where he is to spy on a terrorist, MOLLAKA (Sebastien Foucan).
